Leadership Training in Nicaragua
|
In late January, 2009, four school leaders from Michigan traveled to Managua, Nicaragua, to present workshops for area Christian school and Martin Luther University representatives. Bruce Hekman (Calvin College), Glenn Vos (Holland Christian Schools), Jim De Korne (charter schools auditor for Grand Valley State University), and Al Boerema (Calvin College) spent a week with about forty leaders from the Nicaraguan Association of Christian Schools and about forty MLU administrators and staff. This visit is part of an international Christian schooling project funded by the Kuyers Institute via a generous grant from the Boomsma family. The project has already allowed two Nicaraguan Christian education leaders to participate in the Educators Leadership Development Institute program codirected by Calvin College and Christian Schools International in Ontario during August 2008. The recent visit was a direct result of that program, and it is hoped that more leaders can be brought to future ELDI programs and that another round of workshops can be led in Nicaragua in January 2010. |
