Valparaiso "Practices to Pedagogy" Grant
The Kuyers institute has received a grant of $56,380 from the Valparaiso Project on the Education and Formation of People in Faith for a three-year project entitled "From Christian Practices to Christian Pedagogy: An Initiative for Research and Renewal." The project, led by David I. Smith of the Kuyers Institute and James K. A. Smith of the Calvin College Philosophy department, has assembled an interdisciplinary team to consider the implications of existing work on social practices and on the role of Christian practices in faith formation for how teaching and learning are practiced in Christian college classrooms.

The team members are

  • Julie Walton, HPERDS Department, Calvin College, Grand Rapids, MI
  • Ashley Woodiwiss, Chair in Political Economy, Director of the Drummond Center for Statesmanship, Erskine College, Due West, SC
The project will culminate in a 2009 conference and a book about Christian practices and Christian pedagogy.
