| Dr. Hadley Wood |
On Monday, September 26, 2005, the Kuyers Institute will host a lecture by Dr. Hadley Wood.Dr. Wood is Vice Provost for Faculty Development at Point Loma Nazarene University, where she also teaches French and literature and is Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning. She is the author of the French textbook En
Avant! and of auxiliary material for the textbook Reflets. In addition, she lectures on Foucault and literary theory.
Dr. Wood writes, "Grading is a powerful, but little used, tool for shaping student behavior. Grading can be transformed into such a tool without diminishing its objective validity." Entitled "Grading with Grace," her presentation will be based on a paper delivered at the NACFLA conference earlier this year and will pay special attention to the problem implications of grading for proficiency and motivation.
The lecture, which will be held at 3:30 p.m. in the Commons Annex Lecture Hall at Calvin College, is open to all. Attendance is free of charge, and refreshments will be provided. |
