David I. Smith The inaugural address of the Kuyers Institute was delivered on September 16, 2004 at the Prince Conference Center at Calvin College by David I. Smith, the Institute's first director. Titled "What is Excellent Teaching? The Question of Faith and Pedagogy," the lecture explores how faith commitments influence pedagogical choices and how varying visions of educational excellence are shaped by beliefs and values. The lecture both provides a rationale for the work of the Kuyers Institute and tackles broader issues that will be of interest to all concerned with Christian teaching and learning.
