Cantus is a professional, male vocal chamber ensemble dedicated to exalting the human spirit through the performance of innovative and engaging musical programs. In an encore performance this year, the choral group will perform "Lamentation -Exaltation." The concert includes pieces that are rarely heard in the United States because of their difficulty. Cantus prides itself on creating and performing concerts which are not only intellectually stimulating but also emotionally engaging and fulfilling. The purpose of this concert is to take the listener on a journey from the depths of despair to the pinnacle of joy. The texts—from the Bible, Dylan Thomas, Orlando di Lasso, Gerard Manley Hopkins and Walt Whitman--serve as a narrative where individual pain and suffering are turned to joy in this captivating, accessible and stirring musical program.
