Dying Well: Reclaiming the End of Life

For more than 20 years Ira Byock has been involved in hospice and palliative care. He has authored numerous articles on the ethics and practice of end-of-life care and in 1995 was the recipient of the National Hospice Organizationís prestigious Person of the Year Award. He is author of the book Dying Well: The Prospect for Growth at the End of Life. As founder and principal investigator of the Missoula Demonstration Project, he researches the experience of dying and the determinants of quality at lifeís end. Byock will examine the public health crisis that surrounds end-of-life care and the unprecedented challenge of care giving brought about by the graying of America. Stories of people who have died well will reveal what is possible in personal and family growth through this inherently difficult time in life.
