Teaching and Learning- Student DormTech

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Maintains a residential computer lab and infoXpress stations in the corresponding residence hall.

REPORTS TO:

Student Computing Services Specialist

Student Managers

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Maintain computer lab and infoXpress stations functionality.
  • Clean the lab and infoXpress areas through garbage cleanup, dusting, and wiping down monitors and computers.
  • Keeping computer software working including imaging when software is not functional. Removing all unauthorized software.
  • Keeping computer hardware working including problem diagnosis and opening HEAT work orders.
  • Checking your lab frequently and fixing machines quickly in a 24-hour turnaround.
  • Making sure all appropriate signs are up, visible, and not vandalized as well as updating or adding new signs as occasion arise.
  • Maintaining the supply of paper and toner cartridges.
  • Record all work orders in HEAT call logging program.
  • Read and retain information posted on DROMTECH email listserv.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings.
  • Follow policies and procedures outlined in the Dorm Lab Technician Handbook.
  • Complete weekly Dorm Lab Reports.

WAGES:

Monthly Stipend

QUALIFICATIONS:

Solid knowledge of basic computing with Windows 2000/XP. Ability to work with staff and students in resolving problems in person. Ability to work independently with little supervision. Ability to know when to escalate a situation to the next level of support. Ability to work within a team structure. Ability to follow direction given by supervisors (both student managers and full-time staff). Self-motivated, highly responsible. Desire to pursue continuous development in technical and personal skills. Must be willing to check the lab everyday and work 3-5 hours per week.
