Windows XP Setup Instructions

Although there are a number of steps to getting your PC connected to Calvin Wireless, you only need to complete these steps once.

Note: Your wireless card must support the Windows XP Wireless Zero Configuration service. We are unable to support other third party wireless configuration software, and cannot guarantee it will work on Calvin Wireless. If you have third party wireless configuration software, please disable it and have Windows configure your wireless settings.

These instructions are for Windows XP SP2 (Windows Vista instructions can be found here). Other OS versions are not supported on the Calvin Wireless network.

Step 1

1. Right-click on the wireless card connection icon in the system tray.
2. Select View Available Wireless Networks.

1. Click on Change advanced settings.

1. On the General tab, confirm that Show icon in notification area when connected is checked at the bottom of the box.

1. Select the Wireless Networks tab. If you do not have this tab, make sure all other wireless configuration software is removed by going to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
2. Confirm Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings is checked.
3. From the Preferred networks list, remove the calvin_wireless_setup (if it exists) by highlighting the calvin_wireless_setup and clicking Remove.

Step 5

1. Once calvin_wireless_setup has been removed, click Add.
2. Enter CalvinWireless for Network name (SSID) (No spaces and case-sensitive).
3. Select WPA2 for Network Authentication (if available). Otherwise select WPA.
4. Select AES for Data Encryption (if available). Otherwise select TKIP.
5. Confirm The key is provided for me automatically is checked.

Step 6

1. Click on the Authentication tab.
2. Confirm the Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network box is checked.
3. Select Protected EAP (PEAP) for EAP type.
4. Uncheck Authenticate as computer when computer information is available.
5. Select Properties.

1. Confirm Validate server certificate box is checked.
2. Select Thawte Premium Server CA as the Trusted Root Certification Authorities.
3. Select Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) as the Authentication Method.
4. Click Configure.

1. Uncheck Automatically use my Windows name and password (and domain if any).
2. Select OK.

1. Click OK for all remaining open windows.
2. Click on the yellow pop-up balloon Wireless Connection Network (restart your computer if you do not get the pop-up balloon).
3. Enter your KnightVision username and passphrase.
4. Leave Logon domain blank.
5. Click on OK.

At this time, your network card should authenticate and acquire a network address. You will see another yellow Wireless Network Connection pop-up balloon that says you are connected to Calvin Wireless.
