IT Information for Admitted Students

All students who wish to register for ResNet must have Symantec Endpoint 11 installed on their computer. PLEASE do not purchase Symantec Endpoint or any other antivirus software on your own. Calvin offers Symantec FREE OF CHARGE to all Calvin College students and other antivirus software will have to be removed in order for Symantec Endpoint to properly protect your computer.

ResNet

ResNet offers high-speed ethernet connections to the Internet from on-campus dorms and apartments. In order to connect your computer to ResNet when you arrive at Calvin it must meet our minimum hardware and software requirements.

Software Requirements

All Students who wish to register for ResNet must have Symantec Endpoint 11 installed on their computer. Calvin College offers Symantec Endpoint to all current Calvin Students free of charge. You will not be able to download Symantec until you have completed your PASSPORT session. You will receive a temporary login and more information on where to download Symantec Endpoint in your PASSPORT folder.

Since you cannot download Symantec Endpoint until you are a student, we recommend that you use the free one year subscription of antivirus that came with your computer. Do not purchase additional antivirus packages before coming to Calvin. You will have to remove them and install Symantec Endpoint before being able to register for ResNet.

We also require that you are at the most current Service Pack level if you are running Windows. Windows XP computers should be running Service Pack 2.

Once you are a Student, you can download Symantec Endpoint and Windows XP SP2 from this page. ***Note: You will have to login with your username and passphrase that you setup when you first activated your KnightVision and Webmail accounts.

Registering for ResNet

You will not be able to register for ResNet until you arrive on campus. Once you are here, plug your computer into the data jack on the wall of your room using a CAT5 Ethernet cable. Open any web browser and you will be automatically directed to the sign up pages for further instructions.

Calvin Wireless

Calvin Wireless is our wireless network that is rapidly expanding. There are many access points installed across campus for you to take advantage of.

Setting up Calvin Wireless

When your computer is in range of the Calvin Wireless system, connect to the calvin_wireless_setup network and open any web browser to automatically connect to the setup instructions.

If you are having trouble connecting to Calvin Wireless, please stop by the HelpDesk located in the basement of the Hekman Library for assistance.
