PRINT

I am trying to print, but the jobs aren’t showing in my print queue.
  • Check your print queue after printing to see if the jobs show up there.
  • If this is the first time you are experiencing this issue, please wait to see if the jobs appear after a few minutes.
  • If this is a recurring/ongoing issue, please contact the HelpDesk. Please let the HelpDesk know how you are sending jobs (Mac or PC, sending via driver or Google Cloud Print) and how you are accessing the print queue (via the web interface, or by logging into the printer, or both).
I am trying to copy/print with stapling, but it does not seem to be an available option.
  • It is possible that the particular MFD you are attempting to use does not have a stapling option. You can use Printing Services for any printing needs, including larger volume jobs or jobs that require additional features.
Can I set single-sided as the default for printing?

Settings for simplex (single-sided) and duplex (double-sided) printing are set on a global level, so in order to set your own defaults for simplex/duplex, you must perform this on your own print driver on your computer. Mac users can select settings in the printing presets options.

  1. Go to Start > Devices and Printers
  2. Once in devices and printers, right click on the uniFLOW printer
  3. Click Printing Preferences
  4. In the window that opens, select the drop-down for Duplex
  5. You’ll have three options to choose from; pick the one that applies to you
    • Simplex - Single-sided
    • Long-Edge - Double-sided “booklet” style
    • Short-Edge - Double-sided “calendar” style
  6. Hit OK at the bottom of the window to set your default
How do I use the bypass tray?
  1. When printing, select your paper from the Paper Catalog (i.e. "Bypass Tray Letter”)
  2. At the Canon device, log in
  3. Load your paper into the Bypass Tray; a prompt will appear on the screen
    1. On the first screen, select the Paper Size 
    2. Hit Next
    3. On the second screen, leave the default setting
    4. Hit Next
  4. Select your job and Print
How do I use the bypass tray for envelopes?
  1. When printing, select Envelope 10 from the Paper Catalog
    • Envelope 10 is a COM 10 envelope size. If you need a different size, please contact CIT
  2. At the Canon device, log in
  3. Load the envelopes into the Bypass Tray; a prompt will appear on the screen
    • Note that the Canon iR-ADV 62xx series devices do not support envelope printing
    1. On the first screen, select Envelope
    2. Hit Next
    3. On the second screen, select the appropriate size of the envelope
    4. Hit Next
  4. Select your job and Print

SCAN

I am trying to scan, but it only scans in black and white.
  • When scanning at an MFD, scan to either Email or H: with Options.
  • After you press the green Start button and press Next on the MFD’s screen, you will be prompted to choose a File Type.
  • Select an appropriate File Type other than TIFF.

I am trying to scan and send to email, but I never receive the email.
  • If the document is very large, it may be unable to send via email (and may not give an error/warning).
Can I save email addresses on an MFD?

It is not possible to create a personal email address book to be used with the scanning option. There is an address book that includes all Calvin employees and students. Our recommendation is to use the scan option to email the document to yourself and then use your outlook address book to forward the scanned item to the appropriate places.

  • If you hit To: you can search the entire Calvin contact list.
  • You can also email the scanned document to yourself, and send it to your coworker(s) from your email.
Can I scan to a USB drive?
  • At this time this functionality is not available.  We will continue to research if we can make it work with our current implementation.
Are there file size limitations when scanning?
  • Microsoft caps message size at 36MB (published limit is 25MB, but they allow for significant headroom). Internal routing systems are set at 100MB maximum message size.
Why do .jpeg scans come through as a .zip file?
  • It is intended to work this way. This is so multiple jpeg files can come through in one zip file. You will have to unzip the file.

FAX

I am trying to send a fax on-campus, but it isn’t working.
  • When sending a fax on-campus, you should dial 9 for an outside line, plus the full 7-digit fax number
I am trying to retrieve a fax someone sent me. Where did it go? How do I retrieve it?
  • Faxes will automatically arrive and print
  • Fax numbers remain unchanged
How are incoming faxes charged?
  • Incoming faxes are charged to an unassigned user for the department in which the MFD resides
How do I create a fax address book?
Can I get a fax log?
  1. At the MFD, hit the Status Monitor/Cancel button
  2. On the Status Monitor/Cancel screen, hit the Send option at the top
  3. Once Send is selected, hit the dropdown on the right and select Fax
  4. Hit Log
  5. Print List at the bottom of the screen will print the fax log

GENERAL QUESTIONS

I am trying to login at the MFD with my ID card, but it is not working.
  • Verify that your ID card still works elsewhere (can you use it to enter a building?).
  • Be sure that the magnetic stripe is facing the correct direction, it needs to face forward on the printing devices (opposite of the card readers on doors).
  • The card swipes are being programed to beep indicating the card was read.
  • If you believe there is an issue with your ID card, please go to the Housing Office in the Spoelhof Center to test or get a replacement.
  • If you believe there is an issue with the card reader on the printing device, please contact the HelpDesk.
I am a First Year Seminar (FYS) instructor and am unsure how printing will work with uniFLOW.
  • Instructors should be able to print to the department associated with their FYS position, which should say Office of the Provost.
What do I do with old or used print toner?
  • Old or used printer toner (ink) cartridges can be sent to Printing Services to be recycled
