Network Resources:
Changes made during the summer for faculty and staff
Over the summer CIT completed making changes to Calvin’s Novell file server system. Although many of the benefits to you are “behind the scenes” these changes:
- Make sharing files between people from different departments easier
- Make access to multiple department drives files easier because all departments and shared folders will be on the same file server.
- Resolve the current conflict with USB or external drives.
- Help CIT manage the network.

To connect to a file server enter the file server name
Example: Enter acadia to connect to your Home drive. Enter denali to connect to your Department (s) common drive. Log in with your username and passphrase.

Connecting to Novell using the Novell client from off-campus using your Calvin Windows laptop
Netstorage will continue to work the way it always has. If you want to connect to Novell using the Novell client from your Calvin Windows laptop you'll need to make a VPN connection to Calvin before logging in to Novell. This is only available to faculty and staff using a Calvin laptop.
- From the Novell Client for Windows login screen, click on Workstation only then log in.
- Make your VPN connection.
- Once connected to Calvin via VPN right-click on the red N in the system tray and select Novell login.
- Log in to Novell.
FTP access to the Novell file servers has changed
We will be supporting:
1. Novell Client access (NCP)
2. CIFS / Samba access (SMB)
3. Netstorage access (including WebDAV connectivity - for things like the "NetDrive" product)
If you need FTP access please contact the HelpDesk.

All students home drives will be moved to H:\.
All their files will be moved also. The only different will be that students will access H:\ or bighorn\username |
| Beginning November 2008 |
We will begin moving administrative department (G:) and home (F:\) drives. We will do this by department so we will coordinate with your department before making any changes.
We will not move academic departments until Summer 2009. |
