E-mail: Third Party E-mail Client Configuration

CIT provides support for GroupWise and GroupWise WebAccess for Calvin e-mail, calendaring, and address books. We have provided the IMAP configuration settings for using a third-party e-mail client to access your Calvin e-mail but we are not able to provide any additional support for third party e-mail clients or advanced configuration. The following configuration settings are for IMAP only as we do not recommend using POP3.

If you are using a third-party e-mail client to access and send Calvin e-mail, once your quota has reached the 90% threshold (the threshold at which GroupWise automatically begins warning), you will not be able to send mail, only receive it.

Remember, you can access your GroupWise e-mail on any computer with Internet access via http://webaccess.calvin.edu. You may also install the GroupWise client on your personal computer and/or configure GWSync to access your GroupWise mailbox and calendar on your mobile device.

To configure your 3rd party IMAP e-mail client to read your GroupWise account:

  • Set your Incoming mail server to: gwmail.calvin.edu using SSL and port 993. (If you want to use POP3 over SSL, the port is 995). You'll need to use your Novell/Groupwise username and password for this setting.
  • Set your Outgoing mail server (SMTP) to: gwmail.calvin.edu. If you are using Outlook or some variant, configure it to use SSL on port 465. All other clients should be configured to use TLS on port 587. You'll need to use your Novell/GroupWise username and passphrase for this setting.
  • Enter the advanced settings within your client and make sure that the pre-configured folders within the mail client match the GroupWise folders (ex. sent mail = "Sent Items"; junk = "Junk Mail"). Also, make sure your client is not automatically configured to empty trash automatically.
