Installing GroupWise at home

Calvin faculty and staff with GroupWise e-mail accounts may install the GroupWise client on personal computers for home use. Below CIT provides English installers for PC/Windows and Apple/Mac. For further support and troubleshooting, see the GroupWise FAQ at Novell.

CIT currently provides GroupWise 2012 for Windows PCs and GroupWise 8 for Macintosh.

  1. Download and save the file below (right click on the file > choose Save As\Save Link As > choose the location on your computer you would like to save to).

    (In order to access the installation files, you will need to login to the Calvin portal. Emerti and staff who do not have Novell/portal access, please visit the HelpDesk to obtain and installation disc.)

  2. Open Computer (Start > Computer), open/double click on your C:\ drive, click New Folder near the top left of the window, and enter "GWise Temp" as the name of the folder.

  3. Browse to where you saved the downloaded file from step 1 (it is called GroupWise2012.zip) and double click to open the zip file.
  4. Near the top left corner of the window, click the Extract All Files button extract

  5. In the next window, enter the folder destination as shown below and check Show extracted files. Click Extract.

  6. Once the files have extracted, the GWise Temp folder will open automatically.

  7. Open (double click) the win32 folder.  win32

  8. Locate the Windows Installer Package file called groupwise. Double click on the groupwise file to load the installer. gwise

  9. When the installer has loaded, click Next to begin.

  10. Select Typical or Upgrade (if you already have a previous version installed) as the Setup Type and click Next.

  11. Click Install to run the installation.

  12. When it is complete, click Finish.  You can check Launch the Program if you would like GroupWise to start right away.  You do not need to restart the computer.

  13. To use GroupWise 2012, double click the GroupWise 2012 icon on your desktop, or click the Start button > All Programs > Novell GroupWise > GroupWise

  14. The first time you login, you may need to enter some additional information in order to connect to the server:
    • use your Calvin username (ex. jcalvin) and your Calvin passphrase
    • select Online
    • for the Address, enter gwcol.calvin.edu
    • for the Port number, enter 1677

Installing GroupWise 8.0.2 for Mac

  1. Download and save the file below (click on the link below and choose Save File).

  2. Browse to where you saved the file (it is called GroupWise8Mac.dmg). Double click on it to begin running the installer.
  3. Allow the installer to load. This may take a few minutes.
  4. When the GroupWise window opens, drag and drop the GroupWise application into your computer's Applications folder (accessible in your Finder window or from the Go menu > Applications).
  5. GroupWise will copy into your Applications folder. This may take several minutes.
  6. When the GroupWise application has finished copying, launch GroupWise.
  7. You may receive a warning because you downloaded GroupWise from the Internet. Click Open.
  8. If GroupWise prompts for a password, click Cancel. In the Novell GroupWise Startup window, enter "gwcol.calvin.edu" for the Address and 1677 as the Port number.

  9. Login with your Calvin username (eg. abc34) and your Calvin passphrase.
  10. You may now delete the gw802_hp2_client_mac_multi.dmg installer file.
  11. If you wish to change the language, go to GroupWise > Preferences > General tab > select your preferred language from the Interface Language drop-down list. English is the default language.
