Faculty/Staff FAQ for Google apps

In addition to Office 365 email and Office productivity software, Calvin faculty and staff have access to Google Apps which includes Google Docs, Google Sites and all of your other favorite Google Apps (with the exception of Gmail). You can use your Google Apps account to create and save word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation documents. You can even create your own Web site.

  1. Do I have a Google Apps account?
    Yes. Although Calvin is a Microsoft Office campus and CIT continues to support Microsoft Office products, Calvin also provides Google Apps to faculty and staff wanting to use it for class collaboration.
  2. How do I login to Google Apps?
    Login at http://www.google.com/a/calvin.edu/ using your Calvin Account username and passphrase. If you are having problems logging in to Google Apps please contact the HelpDesk.
  3. Where do I go to get help using Google Apps?
    Google provides support for Calvin faculty and staff using Google apps.  The best place to start is to search Google’s “help” link, which is found in the upper right corner of every Google Apps page. Google provides extensive help documentation for all of their products.
  4. Will I be moving to Gmail?
    No. CIT continues to provide faculty and staff Office 365/Outlook accounts for email and provide Microsoft Office as their office productivity tool.
  5. What if I want my own Gmail account?
    CIT is only providing Gmail accounts to students at this time. Faculty and staff may get their own personal Gmail account by going to www.gmail.com. CIT continues to support Office 365 for faculty and staff email accounts and will not offer any support for personal Gmail accounts.
