What are Tag, Quarantine, Block Scores?

Tag Score: A message that receives a score at or higher than your set Tag Score appears in your e-mail box with [SPAM-CALV] appended to the subject:

That does not mean it is spam but that the score the Calvin Spam Filter gave it indicates that it might be spam.

Quarantine Score: A message that receives a score at or higher than your set Quarantine Score (and below your Block Score) is sent to your Quarantine Inbox.

Block Score: A message that receives a score at or higher than your set Block Score is never sent to your e-mail account.

Enable/Disable Spam Filtering

  1. To change your Calvin Spam Firewall settings you first must login at http://www.calvin.edu/spamfirewall. Be sure you use your full e-mail address for your username.
  2. Your personal settings are set using the Preferences tab then selecting Spam Settings.
  3. The top half of the window let's you Enable/Disable Spam Filtering. By default Filtering is set to Yes.
  4. If you set filtering to No, your e-mail will not be given a spam score and will automatically be sent to your e-mail account.
  5. If you make a change to your Spam Filter Enable/Disable, be sure you click on Save Changes to have your changes be accepted.

Control Your Spam Filtering Scoring Levels

  1. To change your Calvin Spam Firewall settings you first must login at http://www.calvin.edu/spamfirewall. Be sure you use your full e-mail address for your username.
  2. Your personal settings are set using the Preferences tab then selecting Spam Settings.
  3. If you have your Spam Filtering set to Yes, the bottom half of the screen let's you control your spam scoring levels.
  4. By default your Spam Scoring uses the system defaults.
    The default levels are:
    Tag score: 10 (this disables the tagging)
    Quarantine score: 10 (this disables the quarantine)
    Block score: 7 - Any e-mail with a score of 7 or higher is blocked.
  5. To change your scores click on the text box and change the number.
  6. Click on Save Changes.
