GroupWise allows you to archive messages, appointments, etc. so that they can be kept for as long as youdesire. The archive process can be done anytime using the client software, or can be set to archive automatically. You can select any message(s) to be archived; however, you cannot select a folder to be archived. If the selected message is in a folder, GroupWise will automatically create the same folder within the archive, if necessary, so your archive will be arranged the same as your active mailbox.
Where is my GroupWise archive stored?
PC Users -
All archive locations have been set to H:\groupwise\archive. We selected this location because files stored on network drives are backed up on a regular basis and when you receive a new computer you will have your archive directory available.
Mac Users -
If you are a Mac user and would like to use the Archive function, please contact the HelpDesk and request that your Archive location be "unlocked". This will give you the ability to specify the Archive location. Please be aware that we cannot fully support Archiving anywhere other than Calvin's network drives. You may archive to another location such as an external drive but CIT cannot guarantee that the data will not become lost or corrupt.
How do I use my GroupWise archive?
Simply right-click on an item and select Move to Archive. The items you selected should disappear from your GroupWise mailbox. To view your archive, click the Online button at the top of the file list on the left and select Archive. This will toggle you into your Archive. Note: You can only use your archive on a computer with the full GroupWise client that is logged in via Novell (if your Archive is stored in H:\groupwise\archive).
Does the archive have a size limitation?
Your archive is stored on your H:\ (home) drive. Your home drive has a limit of 20 GB.
How do I check the size of my archive?
GroupWise has a nice tool to help you manage your mailbox size. However, checking the size of your GroupWise archive requires a few more steps. You should check the size of your archive on a regular basis because you won't receive any warnings until you are over the limit and then when you try to archive an item a small window will appear telling you the disk is full. At that point you won't be able to archive until you delete some items.
To check the size of your archive
- Double-click on the My Computer (Windows XP) or Computer (Windows 7) icon on your desktop.
- Double-click on your H:\ drive.
- Locate the folder called groupwise, right click on it, select Properties, in the General tab look for the Size On Disk.
To reduce the size of your archive
To reduce the size of your archive, open GroupWise and select File > Open Archive. Delete any e-mails that you no longer need to access. Remember to empty the Trash after you delete messages.
