Desktop/Laptop Hardware Standards: 2010-2011

Note: Hardware standards for 2011-2012 are being developed. This page will be updated when the new standards are approved.

These are the desktop and laptop hardware standards for academic year 2010-2011.

In 2009 CIT significantly improved the specifications of the "Standard PC" systems so they meet the needs of the vast majority of users' needs on campus. The "Enhanced PC" system specifications were also improved to meet the needs of those doing intensive computational or graphic design activities. The "Enhanced PC" systems will be deployed only in select areas where they are needed.

In 2010 we are beginning a move away from Hewlett Packard (HP) laser printers. New laser printer purchases will be Xerox printers instead. This shift is due in large part to a shift in HP's product line toward more multi-function devices and fewer monochrome laser printers. It is also due, in part, to the unsatisfactory performance of the new HP printers.
