In October 2009, CIT adopted a patch management schedule designed to provide a more secure computing environment on campus (see the October 19 issue of The IT Connection). CIT also provides advanced notification of planned updates via the CIT Maintenance Blog.
These updates and patches are what generate the Novell prompt you occasionally see on Windows computers (see below).
If you see this pop up, CIT recommends that you click on it to restart your computer as soon as it is convenient for you to do so. If, for whatever reason, you are not able to restart your computer right away, you may be given additional options depending on the patch or update that was installed.
Snooze - This will supress the pop up from appearing for a period of 3 minutes.
OK - Will restart your computer immediately.
Cancel - Will stop the pop up message from appearing and let you restart your computer manually. PLEASE NOTE: This option is NOT always available. Restarts are required depending on the patch or update installed.
