Malicious web sites being blocked

Calvin faculty, staff, and students have been barraged with emails asking for personal information including passwords, usernames, and other confidential information. Those that respond to these emails put Calvin information at risk.

In order to minimize the risk posed by malicious web sites, Calvin Information Technology has begun blocking access to sites that are:

  • known phishing sites
  • known domains used for the purpose of installing malware or spyware

If you attempt to go to one of these sites you will be redirected to a page stating The web page you attempted to access was blocked by Calvin Information Technology.

If you think the site you are trying to access is not malicious please contact the HelpDesk at x6-8555 or send email to helpdesk@calvin.edu.

Attention all campus Mac users: Office 2008 coming on June 4

On Wednesday, June 4, Office 2008 will be pushed to your workstation. In preparation for this new software, on Tuesday, June 3, CIT's Teaching & Learning team is presenting a LunchByte where we will show you the new features available in Office 2008. Although the menu is the same, the toolbars look different. In addition there is an Elements Gallery that gives you quick access to some of the features that you use the most, improved charting capabilities, the ability to save a document in PDF format, and more.

We'll also give you a preview of the new Mac operating system Leopard. Leopard will be installed on all new Mac computers being deployed this summer.

Come join us as we begin to explore the changes in Office 2008 and Leopard.
