Keep your electronic equipment from belonging to someone else
Last week a laptop was stolen out a professor's office. The door was closed but not locked and the laptop did not have a security cable attached. In the past several months four college-owned laptops have been stolen.
How to protect your electronic equipment:
- Whether you are on-campus (Johnny's, a classroom, the Hekman Library, your office) or off-campus (a wireless café, riding on a bus, or sitting at an airport) your electronic equipment (iPods, PDAs, and laptops) should never be left unsecured and unattended, even for a short period of time. It only takes a few seconds for someone to grab these items and run off with them.
- If you have a laptop in your office be sure to have a security cable attached and locked. CIT issues a security cable with every laptop. If your security cable is missing please contact the HelpDesk to request a replacement.
- When you leave your office ALWAYS lock your door, even if it is only for a one hour class period.
Replacement guidelines:
- A laptop that is damaged beyond use, lost, or stolen will be replaced with a comparable used laptop from CIT's available stock. If a comparable used laptop is not available CIT may provide a desktop system as a replacement.
- If a user has a second laptop stolen or damaged due to carelessness the College will not provide funds for its replacement. The user will be asked to pay for its replacement.
