Announcing the 3rd Annual Teaching with Technology Showcase
The 3rd Annual Teaching with Technology Showcase will be held Thursday, March 20 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. in the Alumni Association Board Room (across from Faculty Dining). Come and meet CIT's Teaching & Learning team, learn about our services, ask questions, share ideas and see how other faculty are using technology for teaching. This is an open house format, so bring your lunch or grab a bite to eat from faculty dining then join us across the hall any time between 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. There will be tables available where you can eat your lunch. Dessert will be served.
We are also looking for faculty members who are willing to share their best practices for integrating technology with instruction. You will need to do little to prepare, and we will provide a laptop for you to display your technology. All we ask is that you be on hand to answer questions during a portion of the showcase.
If you are interested in showcasing your technology best practice(s), please contact Krista Spahr at kls5@calvin.edu.
We look forward to seeing you there!
The Technology Budget Planning FAQ
In the February 5 edition of The I.T. Connection we gave you an overview of the Technology Budget Planning Process for 2008. That article prompted many questions about:
- The computer replacement cycle
- Requesting additional computers
- Printer replacements
- Software requests
- Peripherals such as a second monitor or a scanner
- Smart Classrooms & Smart Spaces
- Other Technology Requests
- The budget process and the time-line
We put together a Technology Budget Planning FAQ to answer those budget planning questions. This FAQ will answer most of your questions.
Additional comments or questions are welcome. Please contact Rick DeVries (rickdv@calvin.edu) by February 29, 2008.
What you need to know about software updates and patches
One of the ways CIT maintains the security of your office computer is by pushing software updates and patches to it. Sometimes these updates and patches run “silently” and do not interrupt your work. Sometimes these updates and patches require some action on your part.
- On a Windows computer we use a program called ZENWorks patch management.
- *NEW TOOL FOR MAC: On a Mac computer we use a program called LANRev. The LANRev window does not incidate the patch is being sent from CIT.
If you ever have a question about whether you should accept a software update, please call the HelpDesk at x6-8555.
