E-mail Security - Thanks for your credit card information!
Sending e-mail is like sending a postcard to someone. Anyone who sees the postcard lying around can read the contents. There are a lot of tech savvy people wanting to steal your identity by simply waiting for your e-mail to pass by. Sending private and confidential information via email is NOT secure and is a violation of Calvin's policy on Responsible use of Technology.
That means you shouldn't send confidential information via e-mail AND you shouldn't request someone else send this information to you. That includes:
- social security numbers
- bank account numbers
- credit card numbers
- any information that you want to keep confidential
An exception:
- GroupWise e-mail sent within the Calvin GroupWise system is secure. However, sending e-mail to Calvin students is NOT secure.
