Resources for Admitted Students

Calvin Information Technology provides computing, printing, telephone and
cable television services to the Calvin College community.

Once you're admitted to Calvin, you can setup your Calvin computer account and start getting connected!

Note: Before using your Calvin computer accounts please read the Policy on the Responsible Use of Technology.

Activate your computer account - TODAY

1. Your Calvin account

 

Your Calvin ID number (7 digits) was sent to you shortly after your admission. Use this number to setup your Calvin account.

From here you'll have access to StudentMail, enrollment forms and Financial Aid for admitted students.

2. StudentMail

Calvin's StudentMail is powered by Google's Gmail service. Once you have activated your Calvin account, your StudentMail account will also be activated.

When you arrive on campus, get your computer connected to Calvin's network

1. Novell

Novell

Your Novell account gives you access to log in to any public lab computer on campus. It also allows you to print to any printer in those labs. With your Novell account, you will also be given online storage space to store academic and course materials.

2. Moodle

Moodle is Calvin's learning management system.

3. CalvinStudents (wireless)

Calvin has a growing wireless network on campus. You must be on campus in order to complete the setup of the CalvinStudents wireless network, but feel free to setup CalvinStudents through the authentication step before you arrive on campus.

No matter if you connect to ResNet or to CalvinStudents, you will have to register your computer with our network.

Once you are on campus and connected to one of these two networks, open up a Web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc.) and you will be directed to the registration pages. Your computer will pass registration as long as you meet our latest system requirements.

4. Antivirus Software

Symantec Endpoint

Calvin requires that antivirus software is installed on your computer before you can connect to our network. We provide Symantec Endpoint free of charge to all Calvin students.

You will be prompted to enter your Calvin username and passphrase in order to download Symantec.

You may choose to download and install Symantec Endpoint or you may use any one of these other accepted antivirus programs as long as they are up to date:

  • AVG
  • Avast
  • McAfee
  • Norton
  • Sophos
  • Trend Micro

5. Purchasing a Computer

If you plan to purchase a new computer or have a current computer you wish to bring to Calvin, please make sure it meets our latest system requirements.

6. Personal Technology Purchase Programs

Students may also purchase hardware and software (including Microsoft) at a discounted rate or through Calvin's Campus Store.
