LunchByte: Our Next Learning Management System (KV Replacement)

As many of you have heard, Calvin is planning a move from KnightVision (Blackboard) to a new learning management system (LMS) by fall semester 2010. CIT has been working with the Information Services Committee to prepare for the move. To find out more about this transition we invite you to attend Tuesday’s LunchByte. The following questions will be addressed:

  • Where have we been?
  • Where are we now?
  • What are we considering?
  • Where are we going?
  • What are the results of the survey we filled out a couple weeks ago?

New ways to collaborate using Wimba Classroom (demonstration) - August 27

CIT’s Teaching & Learning Team is hosting a Wimba Classroom demonstration featuring new ways for collaborating online to enrich learning.
Educators can combine Wimba’s interactive technologies with instructional best practices to deliver audio, video, software applications, content, and more.

Wimba Classroom also enables you to:

  • Host guest lecturers virtually from around the globe
  • Host virtual committee or other group meetings (400-500 people can attend simultaneously)
  • Produce recorded lectures, explanations, clarifications on assignments, etc…for students
  • Offer virtual office hours, group study sessions and web-based tutoring
  • Create and participate in professional development opportunities
  • Meet with prospective students via the internet
  • Collaborate online via an interactive whiteboard or share applications
  • Use USB-based videocameras and microphones with no usage costs

Summer Workshops begin!

CIT’s summer workshops begin this week! We kicked off our series of Workshops and LunchBytes yesterday with Nancy Zylstra’s class on Microsoft Word and Travis LaFleur’s class on Publisher.  Training will continue throughout June and more classes will be scheduled for later in the summer.
