Power of Digital Video
Cindy Kok (Broene Center) and Lavonne Zwart (Psychology), with the help of the Digital Studio, transferred several media sources, including VHS tapes, DVD, transparencies, comic strips and video clips from YouTube and NPR, to a single DVD for use with their PowerPoint presentations. Integrating their media helped them to easily access resources while teaching which allowed more time for class discussions and questions. Presenter: Cindy Kok

Can a classroom be “Super-Smart”?
Thanks to the vision and funding of the Business & Economics Department,
North Hall 162 now has a variety of new technologies, including a copy cam, a Walk-N-Talk with interactive panel, and huddleboards and whiteboards, all from PolyVision. It also features dual Epson projectors. Various personnel from Physical Plant, Audio/Visual, CIT and Custer Workplace Interiors teamed with the Business and Economics Department to install and implement this exciting new "Super-Smart" technology.
Bringing speakers to class virtually
Education professors Al Boerema and KaiLonnie Dunsmore used inexpensive USB Webcams and free Skype software to allow guest speakers to talk to their classes virtually. This easy to use software is freely available and runs on both Macs and PCs with minimal setup, and allows their class to interact with guest speakers anywhere in the world. Presenters: Al Boerema, Kailonne Dunsmore
Collaboration Made Easy: Wikis & Blogs
Harness the power of online collaboration with wikis (doc) and blogs (doc), now built-in to your KnightVision course or organization. Wikis (video) can be used for collaborative group projects allowing group members to easily update wiki entries. Blogs (video) (online journals) can be used for groups or individuals, to track progress for an assignment. These tools are available in KnightVision and integrate directly with your grade book.
Audio & Video To Go: Podcasting
The podcast (doc) tool in KnightVision can be used to embed audio or video files in your course. Upload songs, readings, video clips, or even a recording of your lecture and all files will be automatically aggregated and made available to play within your course. An RSS feed (video) allows students to subscribe to your podcast in iTunes, and automatically download new files and sync them to an iPod. Featuring: Karen Saupe
KnightVision Content System (KV-CS)
The KnightVision Content System (video) allows you to store and manage course or organization content more effectively while increasing collaboration. KV-CS files are accessible around the world from any computer with Internet access!

KnightVision in 2009: What to expect
This summer new KnightVision tools and features will be available to the Calvin community. CIT will also be rolling out a new grade center (grade book) and other new content management tools.
ePortfolios: A collection of student artifacts
Calvin Education students create well-developed ePortfolios -- electronic portfolios -- to displaying their academic achievements as they progress through the Teacher Education Program. Several key assignments are incorporated, along with professor assessments and comments, allowing for an authentic snapshot of a student’s academic profile.
ePortfolios: Helping Teacher Ed students get a job
The Career Development office assists students graduating from the Teacher Education Program with the development of a digital credential file that can be sent to interested schools and administrators. An online credential file includes a personal data sheet, letters of recommendation, course evaluations, and the student's transcript. Presenter: Kristy Dykhouse
ePortfolios: Not just for students anymore!
Utilize the features of the KnightVision Content System to publish your own professional digital portfolio.
Presenter: Karen VanderLaan
Documentation Station
CIT and T&L provides a large variety of documentation. We invite you to pick up whatever you need, either for yourself or to distribute to your students as you see fit. T&L also stores this documentation in the KV Content System, so you can link to our documentation from your KnightVision course(s). Ask us how!
Office 2008 (Mac)
Office 2008 was designed to be more compatible, powerful, and easy to use. The new Elements Gallery helps you easily create professional-looking documents. The new Office 2008 file format is also compatible with Windows Office 2007. Although CIT won't be updating all Calvin Mac computers until this summer, we have received many requests for Office 2008 and are making it available on an "Opt In" basis. Spend a few minutes looking at the new Office 2008 and decide if you are ready to update now.
Leopard (Mac OS 10.5 )
Apple started shipping Mac OS 10.5 Leopard in October. This summer CIT will install Leopard on all new and redeployed Mac computers. Leopard features a new look and feel, including the desktop Stack; an innovative way to keep your desktop from being cluttered. Presenter: Kevin VanSchepen
