Student
Staff Members:
The Teaching and Learning Digital Studio employs numerous Student Staff Consultants in order to assist students, faculty, and staff with the various services that the Studio provides. Our current consultants include:

Johnny Ansari

Johnny Ansari

Major:
IDIS in Biology & Art

Year:
Senior

Interests:
My areas of interest are very scattered; it is really difficult to be specific. Ever since I was young I’ve always been interested in the process of how things worked. I used to take apart my toys, old radios and etc. I still am this way, as there's so much to learn out there. These fascinations lead me to things like computers, music, art, and photography. Technology is not the only area that interests me; I’m also very interested in how creation works form a bio / ecological perspective.

Strengths within the DS:
Music production, interface design, and photo editing. Soundtrack Pro, Garageband, Flash, & Photoshop.

Important trend(s) I see:
I see technology getting smaller, faster, greener and being available to everyone. I think it’s important to see technology that adapts to us instead of us adapting to it. I see a big trend in the mobile area that’s pulling people out of their desks. In the future the small devices will be far more capable than what I can imagine. Smaller devices also mean that they are more energy efficient; if everyone had access to such devices, there would be a positive, global impact.

Matt Faber

Major:
Studio Art

Year:
Senior

Interests:
NA

Strengths within the DS:
Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and InDesign; Mac OSX, Garageband, iMovie, iPhoto, and iWeb; Java, HTML/XHTML, and CSS.

Important trend(s) I see:
Technology is at the heart of everything. Everything non-organic comes into contact with one form of computer technology or another. Nearly every job involves a computer at some point. Computers are a good thing to get into. Clowd servers are sweet.

Logan Kuntz

Logan Kuntz

Major:
Computer Studies

Year:
Sophomore

Interests:
Logan loves spending time talking to new people. New, innovative technologies are also a passion of his. Logan loves learning anything new about computers and devours any extra knowledge he can get his hands on.

Strengths within the DS:
In the Digital Studio, Logan has an insatiable appetite for learning new programs. He is also good at finding the solution to problems when he doesn't know it. Logan has some experience with Photoshop and is focused on learning Dreamweaver and Adobe Flash.

Important trend(s) I see:
Logan sees a shift in computing towards highly intuitive, lightweight programs. Logan thinks that as the lightning fast technology market continues surging forward, the only way we will be able to keep up with the increasingly-complex technologies is through intuitive designs involving motion physical interaction. Logan hopes to help contribute to that move towards intuitive technology.

Jessica Overbeeke

Jessica Overbeeke

Major:
Nursing

Minor:
Psychology

Year:
Junior

Interests:
Jessica loves photography, art, and sewing. Although she does not have a lot of time or make much time for being creative she enjoys it when she can. Nature photography is her favorite. She loves being outside and capturing the beauty of God's creation. It is one way to share God's amazing works with others. She would like to be able to share her photography and learn how to use a variety of programs to display and manipulate her photos. Jessica also enjoys helping others and hopes to be a registered nurse. She would like to help find different sources where technology can help make learning science concepts easier to understand and enjoyable.

Strengths within the DS:
Jessica is a new member of the Digital Studio and is currently focusing on learning Photoshop, InDesign, and Dreamweaver.

Important trend(s) I see:
Technology has evolved how society functions and it will continue to do so. I believe that technology will further impact education. In addition, it can benefit the many industries in a positive way, particularly the health industry. Nursing students, like myself can benefit from videos, interactive software, and other programs which help with understanding and organizing concepts that can be applied in the real life situations. In the future, students will be more equipped with tools of technology that broaden their scope of learning and understanding. Technology can be used for good or bad. I see that it can be used for good by advancing our ability to learn now and in the future.

Alexander Tyan

Major:
International Relations

Year:
Super-Junior

Interests:
Anything that offers something to learn, which is just about everything. But currently my interests concentrate in videomaking, electro-dancing, watching/being influenced by lindyhop/bboying/locking/popping and listening to electrohouse/fidget electrohouse/disco electrohouse/progressive house. Former interests: vocal percussion and electric bass guitar (jazz and funk).

Strengths within the DS:
Video editing software: Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 + Final Cut Pro 7

Important trend(s) I see:
Technology's growth expands our range of reaching other people, but at the expense of an average depth of a relationship. In other words, today we can communicate with more people than ever, yet an overall depth of a relationship we develop with each of these people is not as great.

Beth Valentine

Beth Valentine

Majors:
Digital Art and Art History

Minor:
French

Year:
Senior

Interests:
Connecting people to art through the use of technology. She also loves playing music.

Strengths within the DS:
Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Flash, Final Cut Pro, and HTML.

Important trend(s) I see:
Mobile devices are becoming increasingly popular and more versatile. The technology has progressed far beyond phones to include devices such as iPads and GPS systems.

Beth Vander Meulen

Beth VanderMeulen

Major:
Graphic design.

Minor:
TBD.

Year:
Sopohmore

Interests:

In my spare time I love to read, be creative and artsy, help people out, design things on the computer, play soccer, listen to music, play games and hang out with family and friends.  I like working with technology, except when it doesn't do what you want, however I also like being the one to teach others new things about technology and try and fix what went wrong.

---

Strengths within the DS:
My favorite program of all time and the one that I know the most is Adobe Indesign. I also know other programs as well.  Here they are:
Adobe Indesign
Adobe Illustrator
Adobe Photoshop
Adobe reader (somewhat)
Microsoft Word
Microsoft Powerpoint
Microsoft Excel
iMovie
somewhat in Garageband
a little in iDVD

Important trend(s) I see:

Technology effects the world and the culture around us. Therefore, we all should become involved with it and be willing to learn and use it to faciliate our learning.

Damon Zuidema

Major:
Music Education

Year:
Sophomore

Interests:
Innovations in technology, learning new instruments and bettering the ones he already knows, and meeting new people. He also loves to knit.

Strengths within the DS:
Damon is in his first year at the Digital Studio and is constantly learning new things. He's strong at grasping things quickly and is able to explain this to others. He is strong in ActionScript 3.0 with Flash and has a working knowledge of Photoshop. He is also always learning more about Dreamweaver, Photoshop, and the iLife suite and holds strengths in GarageBand.

Important trend(s) I see:
Technology is something that always has and always will be changing. That growth is both beneficial and harmful, as new technology can bring about new crimes, new corruption, and new problems. Instead of staying away from it, we need to be part of a reform for technology: we need to learn how to integrate both faith and technology in every day life. This can show up in class, in home, and even in churches.

Steven Chevalia

Major:
English

Year:
Senior

Interests:
Steven loves reading and writing.

Strengths within the DS:
Knows the basics behind the Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office programs. He's learning HTML again and becoming more useful with webdesign. Dreamweaver and InDesign are two programs that he plans on learning in greater depth.

Important trend(s) I see:
Steven has been noticing an increasing trend in ePub and Adobe PDF related digital books. Steven is excited to follow ePub 3 when the new releases come out from IDPF (International Digital Publishing Forum). eReaders are cool.
