ALUMNI @ THE MOVIES * (8 p.m., FAC)
Citizen Kane"Citizen Kane," the 1941 classic directed by Orson Welles, will be shown on the big screen in the Fine Arts Center. Professor Roy Anker will give a brief introduction to the film, sharing some reasons why this picture is almost always rated as "the best American made film ever" and suggesting some things to look for in the movie. Anker is author of Catching Light: Looking for God in the Movies (Eerdmans, 2004).

AIRBAND * (8 p.m., Fieldhouse)
This 21st annual contest features lip sync and other upbeat acts prepared by students on Friday night in the Fieldhouse. Check out the photos from Airband 2004!

Henry HolstegeFAITH & LEARNING AWARD LUNCHEON * (11:30 a.m., Commons Lecture Hall)
The 2005 Faith and Learning Award will be presented to Dr. Henry Holstege, Professor of Sociology emeritus. Former students and colleagues are especially encouraged to join us. Event details; congratulate Dr. Holstege.

 

BAND ALUMNI LUNCHEON * (11:30 a.m. Commons Dining Room)
Don't miss this great opportunity to reminisce and share memories of past Calvin Band experiences! The luncheon will be followed by the opportunity for an Alumni Band to play together (with current band members) from 1-2:30 p.m. on the FAC stage. If you plan on playing in the Alumni Band, email your name and instrument to band-reunion@calvin.edu or call (616) 526-6411. The luncheon will also note Derald DeYoung’s final year of teaching and conducting after 27 years at Calvin.

PIZZA PARTY * (Johnny's)
Head to the lower level of the Commons for pizza, pop, breadsticks and cookies. This family-friendly event is your opportunity to continue visiting with your Calvin friends or introduce your kids to more of campus. At just $6 (adults), $3 (age 5-11), or free (age 4 and under), this all-you-can-eat bargain is the best meal deal available! Meet the team, win door prizes, and watch your kids play Little Tykes hoops, too.

CANDLELIGHT DINNER & ALUMNI BOARD REUNION * (5:30 punchbowl, 6 p.m. dinner, Commons)
Chef Tim England and the Creative Dining Services staff will be turning the Commons into Camelot for the evening. Join us at the King's Table as the Outstanding Service Awards are presented to the 2005 recipients, Bernie and Carol Woltjer and Kathy Klaasen. All former members of the Calvin Alumni Board are invited back for a reunion as part of the Homecoming festivities. Following the presentations, guests are encouraged to linger over flavored coffees, hot chocolate, and a dessert buffet.

GOSPEL CONCERT: IMANI AND GUESTS * (8 p.m., FAC)
The lauded gospel ensemble Imani will host a "Gospel Night" with special guests Carolyn Quinn and the East Kentwood High School Gospel Choir. A female vocal group, Imani opened for The Blind Boys of Alabama at Calvin and has established a strong local following. Calvin staff members Rhae-Ann Booker and Jacque Rhodes are joined by Jennice Richardson, Beverly Robinson and Anika Smith in this quintet.

Wear Calvin Day!

Show and share your Calvin spirit on Homecoming Friday and Saturday. Wherever you are, wear something Calvin. Send your pictures and/or stories to the Calvin Alumni Office (alumni@calvin.edu) for possible publication. Calvin faculty and staff — led by their president and provost — will be joining you in their Calvin sweatshirts and other maroon and gold apparel. Departments with 100% participation on Friday, February 18, will receive a gift certificate for a free box of Krispy Kreme donuts!
