2004 Faith and Learning Award Luncheon *

The 2004 Faith and Learning Award will be presented to Dr. Gordon Van Harn, Professor of Biology and Provost, emeritus. Former students and colleagues are especially encouraged to join us.

Art Alumni Luncheon *
Saturday, February 7, 11:30 a.m. Prince Conference Center

In conjunction with the opening of the Calvin Alumni Design Exhibition, an art alumni luncheon will be held on Homecoming Saturday. Join us at the Prince Center for a lunch buffet before attending the award ceremony and opening reception at the Center Art Gallery.

MIAA Athletes Luncheon *
Saturday, February 7, 11 a.m., Commons Dining Hall

Calvin celebrates 50 years in the MIAA (Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association) this year! All Calvin athletes are invited to join us for this luncheon.

Pizza Buffet * - NEW this year!
Saturday, February 7, 6 p.m., Commons Dining Hall

After the basketball games and cookie social, join us for pizza, pop and breadsticks in the Commons. This family-friendly event is your opportunity to continue visiting with your Calvin friends or introduce your kids to more of campus. At just $6 (adults), $3 (age 5-11), or free (age 4 and under), this all-you-can-eat bargain is the best meal deal available on campus. The pizza buffet is open to all alumni; one section of the Commons will be reserved for the Young Alumni Homecoming Social (Classes of 1995-2003).

Homecoming Candlelight Dinner *
Saturday, February 7, 6 p.m., Prince Conference Center 

Lin XuAt the Candlelight Dinner, Outstanding Service Awards will be presented to the 2004 award recipients:

* Dr. Phil Brondsema '78, a longtime mentor for chemistry and chemical engineering students and who worked to gather chemistry and engineering alumni together to establish a special scholarship for students in these areas.

* Dr. Jim Lamse '58, professor of German, emeritus, who has developed a 20-year work exchange program between Calvin and the Central Labor Office of the Federal Republic of Germany. It is estimated that Jim has placed 216 German students in the Grand Rapids area and 183 Calvin students in Germany.

A mouth-watering menu has been designed by chef Patrick Mitchell:

Jackie is a senior political science major from ShanDong province, China. He is director of Rangeela 2004.

Vocal Duet — Gleaning Grace (Emily Kochon and Bethany Jones)
Emily and Bethany started a vocal duet called “Gleaning Grace” three years ago in their hometown of Lafayette, Indiana and have been performing and writing music together ever since.

Irish Violin Duet — Alyce Graham and Lydia Shaw
Alyce recently returned from Ireland, where she spent a semester studying Irish traditional music, dance, and language at University College, Cork. In 2002, Lydia had the privilege of recording a few tracks with musical masters Seamus Connolly (fiddle), Joe Derrane (button accordion), and her teacher, Laurel Martin, for a book and CD of Irish tunes.

Chinese Flute — Jack Cheung
Jack has been playing the Chinese flute for many years as a hobby. Last year, Jack performed as a soloist for the international student show Rangeela.

African Acapella
African Acapella is a group of male singers from Nigeria and Ghana who are Calvin College students and alumni. The group presently consists of Joel Eigege, Emmanuel Legbeti, Abimbola (Abi) Obesisan, Paul Sokomba, Faeren Madza, Attah Obande, Dare Odumosu and David Tannor. They have been performing around West Michigan since 2001.

Classical Accordion — Lin Xu
Lin has won many accordion competitions, and performs exclusively throughout the United States. His CD “Exuberance” was recently nominated for the Jammie Award by WYCE radio station in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
