Variety Show *
Friday & Saturday, February 7th &
8th; 8 p.m., Fine Arts Center

'99 for a night of memories that includes some of the greatest names this
side of Burton and the East Beltline (and who are also alumni of Calvin
College, who donate their monies to the furtherance of Minds in the Making,
who wear Maroon and Gold on Sundays and casual Fridays and who laugh when
asked to identify Zwingli).
Seminar
Saturday, February 8th; 1:30 p.m., Prince
Conference Center
Come hear Dr. Steven Wiersma '83 speak on the topic of "Notes from
a Disease Detective." This presentation will discuss the strange
and ever changing world of a medical epidemiologist and Florida's State
Epidemiologist. The recent past has brought a number of new and emerging
issues to the United States including the first intentional use of anthrax,
the first US case of vCJD (human mad cow disease), the obesity epidemic,
West Nile virus epidemics and the threatened use of smallpox by terrorists.
Dr. Wiersma will discuss his first hand experience with these threats
and describe his experiences as a physician in the little known specialty
called Preventive Medicine and Public Health.
