“Embryonic Stem Cells: Promise and Perils.” 1:30 p.m. Chapel Undercroft Dr.Bud Bouma of Calvin’s Biology Department. Embryonic stem cells are being touted as potentially providing miraculous cures for people suffering from Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, diabetes, organ failures, and spinal cord injuries. Does current research with stem cells justify such lavish hopes? More importantly, is this research morally responsible and what are our scientific, moral, and public policy alternatives?
