DeKruyter Chair in Faith and Communication![]() Dr. Quentin J. Schultze The Arthur H. DeKruyter Chair in Faith and Communication is named after Dr. Arthur DeKruyter, an eloquent preacher and wise pastor who has modeled outstanding communication throughout his ministry to church and society. His career as founding pastor of Christ Church of Oak Brook (IL) has been marked by strong theological and spiritual integrity, visionary leadership, and commitment to excellence. As a master communicator, he has combined uncompromising biblical and theological commitments with visionary, culture-engaging church leadership. The teacher and leader holding this chair must demonstrate a passion for using the gifts of communication to serve God’s kingdom, and a remarkable ability to inspire others in the field. A master communicator like Dr. DeKruyter, the occupant of this chair must have demonstrated an ability to teach and mentor students, connect with academic and general audiences, write for people across a spectrum of professions and callings, and engage and learn from practitioners – building networks and linkages between scholars and those in industry. Normally every three years, Calvin College appoints to this chair someone who meets these criteria. The chair typically serves as the Executive Director of the Gainey Institute for Faith and Communication. This endowed chair demonstrates Calvin College’s commitment to the Reformed tradition, its goal of providing leadership in the field of communication, and its desire to serve the broader Christian community. The inaugural holder of the Arthur H. DeKruyter Chair in Faith and Communication is Dr. Quentin J. Schultze, who simultaneously serves as Executive Director of the Gainey Institute for Faith and Communication and as Professor of Communication Arts and Sciences at Calvin College. He further directs the Calvin Workshops in Communication program. |
