Additional Scholarships

The majority of additional scholarships for incoming students (200+) are awarded based on the information provided on the admission and financial aid applications. To search for other scholarships (including those for returning students) use Calvin's scholarship search or check out outside scholarships.

The awards listed here are available to first year students and require a separate application or letter.

Departmental scholarships

Most departmental scholarships are awarded to students in their sophomore, junior and senior years; however, there are still several opportunities for first-year students. The following departmental scholarships:

  • are available to first-year students
  • require a separate application or a brief letter of interest sent to the financial aid office by February 1

Students must be admitted to Calvin by February 1 to be considered.

Disability scholarships

More than 30 scholarships ranging from $1,350 - $2,500 have been established to support students who have disabilities that affect their learning at Calvin. If awarded a disability scholarship, students continue to work with the coordinator of services to students with disabilities in the academic services department.

Students with the following disabilities may write a letter to the financial aid office by February 1 explaining the disability and how it affects their learning:

  • learning disability
  • physical or medical disability
  • deafness or hearing impairment

In addition to the letter, documentation supporting the disability is required.

Music scholarships

Several types of music scholarships are available ranging from $250–$5,600. Although most music scholarships do not require majoring in music, private lessons and involvement in a music ensemble is required. Applications are due January 19. Information and applications for all music scholarships are available on the music department web site.
