Generational Awards

The First Generation Award

Calvin College recognizes the added barriers that can make it difficult for first-generation students to fulfill their dream to attend college. This award is offered in recognition of those challenges and for your courageous pursuit of higher education. Awarded to first-year students whose parents have not attended college. This $2,000 award is automatically renewed each year and is available for up to five years. 

Alumni Legacy Scholarhips

At least 36 scholarships for $500 are awarded to first-year students who are third-generation legacy students. To be considered, you must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, at least one alumni parent plus at least two additional direct ancestors (e.g. grandparent, great-grandparent) who are Calvin alumni.  Legacy numbers, volunteerism and financial need are also considered.

Denominational grants

Grants ranging from $800–$1,300 are available for members of the Christian Reformed Church in North America.  

• Michigan resident: $800/yr.
• Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin and Ontario: $1,050
• All other states, provinces and countries: $1,300
