Over 97% of Calvin families qualify for some form of financial aid, including scholarships, grants, and loans. Because a number of factors influence a student’s eligibility for financial aid, it is difficult to determine assistance on the basis of income alone. All families are encouraged to apply for financial aid.
Students must apply for financial aid every year. The FAFSA and Calvin’s optional supplemental financial aid application can be completed after January 1.
- First year students should apply by February 15 in order to receive a financial aid award package in April.
- Returning and transfer students should apply by March 1 in order to receive a financial aid award package in May or June.
These are preferred dates. Calvin will accept applications after these dates, but this will delay your financial aid award package.
Yes, you should apply for financial aid every year. The amount of aid you receive each year can increase or decrease based on changes in your financial circumstances.
You can inform us of any special circumstances by submitting Calvin’s Supplemental Aid Form. This can be submitted throughout the year, but to have special circumstances included in your initial financial aid award package, please submit it at the same time as the FAFSA.
Calvin maintains its tuition well below the national average for private colleges and universities and was designated a "Best Value" by the Princeton Review.

The government randomly selects about 30% of all applicants to be verified.
Verification is a process whereby a family is asked to send tax information to the financial aid office. This is used to verify the information you filed on your FAFSA form. This requires you to send a copy of your 1040 and W2 information, your parents’ 1040 and W2 forms, as well as completing a verification worksheet.
