Schedule Updates, Family Weekend 2009


Please note that the following changes and additions have been made to the Family Weekend schedule since the printed Family Weekend brochure was mailed to all Calvin parents. Parents will receive a finalized printed schedule, with all changes and updates, at check-in.

The Calvin Climbing Center (rock wall) will be open to teen and adult family members from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Please note that all participants must complete a waiver [PDF] and training session before climbing. Young children will not be able to climb. Climbing times are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Parent Oasis has been moved inside to the Library Lobby due to the weather. This registration and hospitality area will be available from 9-5 on Friday and 9-2:30 on Saturday.

Friday's hockey game will support breast cancer awareness. Pink t-shirts are $2 with game tickets. A free coach bus to the game leaves the Spoelhof Fieldhouse Center south entrance at 6:30 p.m., 6:55 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. The volleyball team will be participating in the Dig for a Cure drive during its home match with Adrian on Friday. Parking for Fall Music Festival on Friday: Please note that there is a Grand Rapids Christian High School Football game taking place on Friday evening at 7 p.m. Parking may be difficult, so plan extra time to find parking. There will be some reserved parking spaces for Fall Music Festival patrons but it is on a first come, first serve basis and those spots are limited.

Geology department presentation - 1:30 p.m. on Friday
Swim meet - 5 p.m. on Friday
Volleyball match - 6:30 p.m. on Friday
Hockey game - 7 p.m. on Friday
Fall Music Festival - 7:30 p.m. on Friday/Saturday
Samantha Crain - 8 p.m. on FRIDAY (not Saturday)
Ecosystem Preserve activities - 10-10:45 a.m. on Saturday
Men's soccer game - 2:30 p.m. on Saturday

The student Improv shows on Friday and Saturday nights are both sold out.

Creative Dining Services is pleased to offer special meal rates, as well as special treats in the dining halls, for families during Family Weekend: breakfast ($4), lunch ($5), dinner ($7) and Sunday brunch ($7). See the lodging and meals site for details.

Ladies Literary ClubThe Student Activities Office (SAO) concert for Friday night has been announced: Samantha Crain & Midnight Shivers with Kenny Hutson & Jake Bradley of Over the Rhine. The concert is 8 p.m. at the Ladies Literary Club in downtown Grand Rapids. The general admission tickets are $10.
