Worship - Wednesday Chapels - Community Voices

Community VoicesWhat is "Community Voices"?

"Community Voices" is a worship opportunity for you! You may plan with your roommates, floor-mates, classmates, department, friends, organization, etc. For example, you may belong to the Social Justice Committee or the Student Playwrights and want to create a worship experience based on your group’s interest. Your worship may focus on a particular text or theme--it is up to you.

Worship at Calvin College

Worship in Chapel provides an opportunity to meet with our triune God--the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. While there are a variety of ways to worship our great God, we do try to incorporate a number of key elements in worship. For example, God speaks to us through his Word, so we base our worship on truths that are found in the Bible. We speak with God through prayer and singing. We learn from each other by sharing stories about how God has been at work in our lives. We celebrate his Kingdom by including the gifts of worship found in other cultures. In all these ways, we reverently offer our praise and prayer to give glory and honor to God.

The process goes like this:

  1. Sign up for one of the open Wednesday chapels by filling out the online application at least three weeks before your desired date. You will be contacted when you apply to talk about your plan.
  2. Review the chapel expectations in the application and plan accordingly.
  3. Submit your plan two weeks before your chapel
  4. Meet with Cindy de Jong the week before your chapel
  5. Rehearse your chapel
  6. Present on your day

We are looking forward to working together with you!
