2012 Big Idea Contest Set to Kick-Off
The fourth annual Big Idea Contest is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, October 17. The contest will accept student’s idea entries until 5pm on Wednesday, October 31. The finalist pitch competition will take place on Friday, November 9.
2011 Big Idea Contest Celebrates Third Year
Alex Harris, a Junior biology major at Calvin was the winner of the third annual Big Idea Contest. Alex’s idea for a graphical user interface that will allow students to easily create, modify, and store four-year academic plans resonated strongly with the Big Idea Contest panel of judges. In addition to making the student’s academic planning process more interactive and efficient, Alex was also able to describe the benefits that his idea would have on faculty and their academic institutions.
2010 Big Idea Contest Finishes Strong for a Second Year
Eric Yu, a Freshman biochemistry major at Calvin was the winner of the second annual Big Idea Contest. Eric's unique and inventive idea solved an everyday problem for many people at a low cost, exactly what the Big Idea Contest panel of judges were seeking. Eric was also able to project high yield profits for his idea, an added benefit for a new product launch.
2009 Big Idea Contest Concludes with "Pitch" Competion to Determin $200 Grand-Prize Winner
The Big Idea Contest concluded on Friday Dec. 4, 2009 with a "pitch" contest between the four student finalists. Each of the four finalists had five minutes to present their idea pitch to a panel of five judges, and then responded to five minutes of questions from the judes. Each finalist received a $25 gift certificate to the campus store. The grand prize winner of $200 was a team comprised of Dan Evans and Matt Rozema.

GeoLearner Maps Success in Washington DC
The Calvin Geography Department
began promoting the GeoLearner software at the Annual Association of American Geographers Conference in Washington DC. GeoLearner provides an inventive form of learning to geography students, teachers and coinsures alike. Enterprise Center Director Mike Harris along with several Geography Professors and students/alum made the trip to Washington DC for the conference from April 14th - 18th.
