Welcome Back!

We meet as a community to begin the second semester. We welcome back students and faculty who have traveled and studied abroad and we ask God's blessing on the academic work of the semester ahead.

The Message

God's Kingdom at the Core
"...and all these things will be given to you as well."

Popular songs and Harvard lectures prescribe what people should seek in life. Come and consider a different take on that pursuit as Ruth Padilla DeBorst shares from the biblical story and her experience in Latin America.

About Our Speaker

Director, Ediciones Certeza Unida, the publishing house of the Spanish speaking movements linked to the International Fellowship of Evangelical Students

Team Leader, Seeds of New Creation, Network for Integral Mission of the Church in El Salvador, under the auspices of CRC World Missions

Ruth Padilla DeBorst is passionate about her work in Central America, weaving together cultures, languages and people. Ruth has been involved in leadership training, church and community development and strengthening of a Network for Wholistic Mission—Seeds of New Creation—in El Salvador. Ruth has spoken and ministered to students and leaders through the IFES for many years.

Ruth's formal education includes a BEd in TOESL from Lenguas Vivas in Argentina and an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies from Wheaton College Graduate School. She recently moved to Boston with her husband and six children and is currently pursuing studies in narrative theology and social ethics. Ruth also says that "life itself, with its inherent pain and joy, has also been a powerful teacher in the hands of a merciful God." Ruth's compelling life story includes the murder of her first husband, Neal Eldrenkamp, in front of her and her young children while in the mission field.

Ruth was born in Colombia from an Ecuadorian father and a Pennsylvanian mother and grew up in Argentina. She now weaves together a blended family composed of a Liberian-born child, two US-born step-children, three Ecuadorian-born biological children and a Dutch-American husband. Ruth is passionate for bringing people together, building bridges and acting as a catalyst for groups to collaborate in transformational development.
