The D&W School Challenge is a wonderful community-building event. Students, teachers, parents, and friends sign up for the 5k Run/Walk or the Karen Muyskens Family Fun Run. Students will receive a special discounted rate. The team with the most participants wins a $250 cash prize. All students from the wining team will be entered into a drawing, and one will receive a brand new bicycle from Village Bike Shop.
Because of our generous corporate partners, all entry fees go to Grand Rapids and Lakeshore alumni networks student scholarships.
How do I start?
- Find a coordinator who will promote your school's participation.
- Distribute registration forms; download the form now: [ .doc | .pdf ]. (Hint: include your school's name, information and preferred deadline before making copies.)
- Promote your team in school newsletters, Facebook pages, teacher websites, bulletin boards, etc. Schools may request posters and brochures in March.
- Collect the registration forms and payments.
What else do I need to know?
- Deliver or mail all team entries, including forms and fees, to the Calvin alumni office by March 23, 2012, 5 p.m., to guarantee shirt sizes.
- Additional entries may be added to your team totals until April 19, 2012, 5 p.m., but shirt sizes aren't guaranteed and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis on race day.
- Students receive a discounted rate of $15. (Please note this discounted rate is not available online. To maximize scholarship fundraising, the adult registration fee is $25).
- Everyone that registers will receive all of the 5k benefits: t-shirt, post-race refreshments, etc.
- Students must be affiliated with an area school, and you may include teachers, parents, grandparents or other relatives and friends who participate toward your school’s total.
- Children (ages 8 & younger) may register for the Karen Muyskens Family Fun Run ($8 per child, $25/maximum per family) instead of the 5k and still be included in the D&W School Challenge and count toward your team total. Gift of Life
Consider giving the Gift of Life! Every person who signs up on race day to be an organ donor, or who has a red heart donor sticker on their driver's license, will be entered in a drawing to win a 32GB iPad!
- Bring your driver's license or State Identification (ID) Card.
- Sign up at the Gift of Life table in the Hoogenboom Health and Recreation Center, or show us your driver's license with the organ donor red heart sticker.
- Be present to win.The drawing will take place after the race during the Post-Race Party Awards Ceremony.
