Fitness venues to visit in Grand Rapids

From ArtPrize to Grandwich, Grand Rapids boasts a variety of unique opportunities for its citizens, but recently it has expanded its charm to a new category: fitness.

Grand Rapids is bursting at the seams with opportunities to sculpt the body without slimming the wallet. Here is a list of locations in Grand Rapids that fuse fun with fitness for a unique exercise experience:

The Funky Buddha, located at 1331 Lake Drive SE

Sunday’s community class is $5, and all the proceeds go to The Funky Buddha’s selected charity of the month! The regular price for students is discounted at $10 per class.

This one is for all of the yoga lovers out there. The Funky Buddha offers hot yoga classes, which help to relieve stress while toning the body and increasing flexibility. Every Sunday, The Funky Buddha offers discounted Yoga classes as their way of giving back to the community; this is a great deal, but be sure to get there a little early, because spots are first come, first served, and classes fill up quickly!

FZIQUE, located at 1100 East Paris Ave. SE in Suite 7

Students who show ID will be charged $10 per class (Ballistic Blitz or Peak Power Yoga)

FZIQUE is a completely new take on fitness, and it’s taking Grand Rapids by storm. Featured on eightWest this month, FZIQUE is the first studio in Grand Rapids to fuse a kettlebell studio with upbeat music, indoor cycling, yoga and encouraging trainers. Each class lasts 45 minutes and roasts calories, while participants interact with their trainers (and each other) to catchy music. Those interested should take a look at the class on eightWest’s site; those who call, and say they saw FZIQUE through eightWest will gain an unlimited one month membership!

TerraTrikes, located at 4460 40th St. SE

This one goes out to all of the hipsters who want to try something before it becomes popular! TerraTrikes are recumbent trikes with headquarters in Grand Rapids, and this December, they are set to grace the list of Oprah’s Favorite Things in O Magazine! This is a great way to show the city some love and try a fun workout that is perfect for those who want to be comfortable while exercising. Spice up your traditional Calvin Walk or floor date and rent some TerraTrikes so you can pedal while enjoying the ArtPrize-worthy display of fall foliage. TerraTrikes can also accommodate special needs and handicaps.

Grand Rapids Running Tours start and end at the J.W. Marriot Hotel in downtown Grand Rapids, and running tours can also be designed based on your desired location. To set up a tour (custom or group), email [email protected].

Prices vary depending on the route, but 5Ks cost $20 while 10Ks are $35.

Calling all runners and scenics! Grand Rapids Running Tours is perfect for those who want to explore the city while burning some calories. Grand Rapids Running Tours provides a “tour guide” to craft a route of the city based on the request of the group. Grand Rapids Running Tours also tailors the pace of the tour to its participants, so serious runners can push themselves without chatter, and those who would prefer to take a scenic stroll can walk with their guide at a relaxed pace.
