Campus Safety Report

1/12/2013

Campus safety responded to a call of a student who had fallen through a roof or ceiling in the Engineering Building. The student stated that he was not injured and the incident had occurred while he was playing a game in the building after hours. A copy of the report was forwarded to judicial affairs.

 1/13/2012

Campus safety received a call from the residence life staff in the Boer-Bennink residence hall regarding a student returning to the hall intoxicated. A portable breath test was administered to determine the student’s level of intoxication. A report was forwarded to judicial affairs with the results.

Campus safety responded to a report of a window broken in Eldersveld Hall. The occupants stated the window broke when someone on the exterior knocked on it. Two males were observed outside, leaving the area.

Campus safety took a larceny report from a college employee who had left her office door unlocked and was not in her office at the time an unknown individual entered the office and stole her iPad and some cash. In addition to making a report with the campus safety department, the victim made a report with the Grand Rapids Police.

A Calvin staff member reported that, when leaving work, he entered his vehicle and the rear window of the vehicle shattered as he closed the driver’s side door. Nothing indicated that the damage occurred from the window being struck by a foreign object. A report was taken for insurance purposes.

Campus safety officers observed what appeared to be intoxicated student-aged individuals in the track and tennis parking lot. Officers made contact with four individuals, who were visiting campus for the Calvin-Hope game. All four individuals were identified and administered PBTs. It was determined that two of the people were intoxicated and subsequently were denied access to the game and asked to leave campus.

Campus safety took a report of the theft of the Hope banner from the Van Noord Arena during the Calvin-Hope basketball game. A Campus safety employee discovered that the banner had been taken to Beets Hall. The banner was recovered and returned to Hope College. Information on the students who took the banner was forwarded to judicial affairs.

1/20/2013

Campus safety took a report of a larceny of an unlocked bicycle from the bike racks outside of Noordewier-VanderWerp. The unlocked bicycle was taken sometime between Jan. 9 and Jan. 11. The bicycle was not registered with the campus safety department. The bicycle is described as a silver and blue Roadmaster Granite Peak Men’s 26″ bike.
