WAX/WANE - Work by Liz McCarthy
From February 15 - March 15, 2013, the Calvin College Department of Art and Art History is proud to present "WAX/WANE" an exhibition of photographs, drawings and installation by artist Liz McCarthy. This collection of images explore a personal connection to the moon and its cyclical time. It began as a prescribed obsession when, on advice from a doctor to "pay attention to the moon," McCarthy began researching, contemplating, watching and documenting the reflecting orb that punctuates the Earth's night sky. Mimicking thousands of years of human instict to create moon mythology, McCarthy uses photography and drawing to document her own personal relationship to lunar magnetism. She seeks to emphasize the act of looking up and acknowledging the moon and its constant changing phases.
