Young Blood: Michigan's Urban Youth
Daniel Farnum
July 13 - August 17, 2012
From July 13 - August 17, the Calvin College (106) Gallery presents Young Blood: Michigan's Urban Youth, an exhibition of photography by Daniel Farnum. Born and raised in Saginaw, Michigan, his work adresses the American experience, landscape and culture. In this body of work, Farnum's images focus on the "disenfranchised, the misunderstood, the urban pioneers, the aspiring thugs, and the hipsters whose youthfulness contrasts the harsh condition of the places in which they are photographed."
These images were mostly shot in Saginaw, Detroit, Flint, Ypsilanti and Grand Rapids. He is "interested in how these specific locations shape the aspirations, both lofty and shallow, and attitude of its residents."
