sticks and stones

From April 4-25 the Calvin College Art Department presents sticks and stones, 2008 Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition in the Center Art Gallery. The exhibition features work by senior BFA students Tracy Rose Guajardo, Ruth Ribeiro, Eric Heerspink and Sara Bakker.
Tracy Rose Guajardo is active in many mediums and enjoys working with her hands. She writes, "Mark making involves more than graphite to paper. It also includes stitching, knotting, arranging, cutting." Click for full statement.
Ruth Ribeiro's work revolves around her interest in materiality. She writes, "In a world were most, if not all our materials are machine made we need to reconsider how we interact with materials, Art and people." Click for full statement.
Eric Heerspink works primarily in ceramics and is drawn to the closeness with the materials he uses. "There is a sense of becoming joined in purpose with the clay," he writes. Click for full statement.
Sara Bakker is influenced by her interactions with animals, and her work reflects this visual and social interest. "From the time I was a little girl, I have been fascinated with animals and insects, partly because of their mystery in our shared habitat of suburbia." Click for full statement.
