FOR HIS HIGHEST
Ivan Fortushniak

March 7 - April 26, 2014

From March 7 - April 26, the Center Art Gallery at Calvin College presents FOR HIS HIGHEST, an exhibition by artist Ivan Fortushniak. Heavily influenced by early Modern American Art of the 19th century, the motivation behind Fortushniak's recent work is to illustrate the dire state of man and their need for what the Gospel offers. Some of his paintings convey biblical references through collaged material from art historical texts, while others use appropriated figurative imagery from Winslow Homer, juxtaposed in a modern setting.

An Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Fortushniak returns to Grand Rapids, where he received his BFA in Painting at Kendall College of Art and Design.
