BEAUTY OF THE SPIRIT:
Paintings and Illustrations by Kadir Nelson

From March 17 - April 19, the Center Art Gallery at Calvin College presents Beauty of the Spirit: Paintings and Illustrations by Kadir Nelson, an exhibition held in conjunction with the Festival of Faith and Writing. Kadir Nelson is a renowned African American artist and illustrator whose work has a poetic and narrative quality that focuses on the integrity of the human spirit. He was recently awarded the 2008 Caldecott Honor for his work on the book "Henry's Freedom Box" His newest book "We Are the Ship: The Story of Negro League Baseball" was featured in the March 10, 2008 issue of Sports Illustrated. The exhibition will feature 25 paintings of Nelson's personal work and book illustrations, and he will be a speaker at the 2008 Festival of Faith and Writing.
