ABOUT THAT TIME
2007 Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition

March 9-17, 2007

The Calvin College Art Department presents ABOUT THAT TIME: 2007 Senior Bachelor of Fine Arts Exhibition from March 9-17 in the Center Art Gallery.  The exhibition features work by senior BFA students Robert Bosscher, Taylor Greenfield, Heather Luimes, and Bradley Smith.

Robert Bosscher, who primarily uses clay, enjoys working with his hands to create both functional and sculptural vessels. For him, the rhythm and craft of ceramics inform his understanding and drive to create. Although Taylor Greenfield also uses clay as a medium to communicate, her work is driven by the power of narrative. In addition to ceramics, she uses painting and sculpture to create contemporary precious objects, which re-illustrate the stories of Saints and classical mythology. Heather Luimes is also interested in using a variety of materials, but finds herself searching for new ways to create and explore patterns within her work. The interaction of the viewer with a piece of artwork, and the function of symbols and patterns in the world, continue to direct her explorations. For Bradley Smith, whose work is both sculptural and photographic, his inspiration comes from things he sees or finds. This is evident in the variety of pinhole cameras that dominate his body of work, and in desire to share his work through planned photographic and sculptural experiments.

An Exhibition Reception on Friday evening, March 9 from 7 - 9 p.m. will honor the artists.

The barrier-free Center Art Gallery, located on the lower level of the Spoelhof College Center, is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday. There is no admission charge.
