VENERABLE SCRIPTS

January 8 - Febuary 10, 2001

Words are images. Each letter and combination of letters present meanings for our interpretive engagement. Words as images are most evident in calligraphy. In conjunction with the January 2001 Symposium on Worship, the Center Art Gallery hosts "Venerable Scripts". The exhibition will include self-consciously Jewish, Christian, and Islamic works, as well as a few works from outside those traditions to present something of the breadth and power of both historic and contemporary calligraphic imaging in paintings, pages, books, pottery, illustrations, and other objects on display.
