Beth graduated from Calvin with an economics major. Previously Beth worked in insurance claim management, specializing in managing and training employees handling medical claim rehabilitation and liability litigation. She then owned and managed an insurance agency. She is now Calvin's manager of experiential education. She handles administrative functions within the office and also works extensively with the internship program. She is the liaison for students and faculty related to the internship program, and she enjoys helping students pursue and obtain internship opportunities.
Laurie graduated from Calvin with an English major. Since graduating, Laurie taught in a Hungarian high school in Budapest and worked as a legislative assistant in Lansing before returning to her alma mater, where she began working in the education department in 2002. Laurie joined the Career Development staff in 2004 as the internship coordinator. Her primary task is to work with employers to recruit, develop, and maintain internship placements. She also serves as the office's job fair coordinator, website manager, and system administrator for CalvinLink.
Meredith joined Career Development in 2008 after obtaining a master's degree from GVSU in adult and higher education. Prior to graduate school, she earned her bachelor's degree from Hope College in English and communications and worked at Youth for Christ for four years. As a full-time career counselor, Meredith assists Calvin students and alumni with discovering their interests and talents, job searching, writing resumes and cover letters, preparing for interviews, and other career-related guidance. Meredith welcomes the opportunity to meet with individuals at any stage of their career development, and she especially enjoys helping students/alumni learn how to present themselves effectively to prospective employers and navigate the job search process.
Bonnie graduated from Calvin with a sociology major and later, realizing an interest and love for teenagers, returned to complete the requirements for an education degree. She has taught in middle schools on the east coast as well as in the software training division at Unisys. In addition, Bonnie operated her own business, Classy Cakes, before coming to Calvin as the computer lab manager. Drawing on her master's in counseling, Bonnie joined the Career Development office, where she serves as a career counselor and the manager of the career resource center located in the Hekman Library. As a result Bonnie's varied career path, she can well understand the challenges of wondering what’s next and loves joining students in their search for a major as well as alumni looking for their first job or navigating a career change. The bottom line for both students and alums is helping them discover how God has gifted them and identifying a future course.
With more than 25 years of experience at Calvin, Karen Hollebeek manages the process for on-campus student employment as well as off-campus Federal Work-Study opportunities.
Kristy has been working at Calvin since 1993. She worked in health services, the education department and student life before joining the Career Development staff in 2004. Kristy serves as the primary recruiting coordinator for on-campus employer visits. She also manages credential files for education students and coordinates the production of resume books for accounting and engineering students.
Karen started working in Career Development in 1999 as department assistant. Her previous work experience has been in human resources. Karen assists employers and students with job postings, coordinates scheduling, and helps with job fairs.
