When you give to Calvin,

An alumna’s education, ingenuity and tenacity unite with a vision for service.
More lessons in leadership, team-building and cooperation are made possible.
The most decorated women’s basketball player in Calvin history, an academic All-American and a four-time individual conference champion in track, Lisa Winkle has excelled as a student-athlete. But beyond all those accolades, Winkle believes her single biggest accomplishment at Calvin was learning how to lead.
“I was always a quieter person and didn’t see how I could be a leader on a team. I’ve learned that you have to be a servant leader, and that plays out in my classroom as well,” said Winkle, who is now a high school math teacher.
Lessons learned on the hardwood and on the track are an important part of the Calvin experience. Providing more opportunities for all students to participate is a goal of this campaign, said Glen Van Andel, co-chair of the Athletic Complex Planning Committee.
Increasing participation means more lessons in leadership, team-building and cooperation. Said Winkle upon graduating from Calvin: “I feel like I’m completely prepared to enter into the next phase of my life.”
